Make sure you have a computer. Or better still an old one so you can try different things. Try experimenting with a Linux CD as the regular use of command lines will sure to increase your computer knowledge fast!
  3. 3
Be prepared to fix. Every time your computer goes wrong, resign yourself to fixing it yourself. You have the Internet now and visiting tech support forums will allow you to communicate with others who have had the same problem.
  4. 4
Don't be afraid of your computer! What have you got to lose by tinkering with that registry if your computer is already in an unusable state? You could save yourself the trouble of re-installing Windows (or whatever operating system you have).
  5. 5
When fixing other people's computers, be sure to bring a flash drive with the following: AVG free setup file (in case they have no anti virus), CCleaner, Auslogics Disk Defrag setup file and Firefox or Opera (to introduce them to the alternative). You can use these programs to free up space, disable start-up programs which might cause conflicts and search and destroy viruses. You can also leave them on the computer if they are unprotected.
  6. 6
Read tech support forums to recognize the symptoms of well known problems. For example a slow and unresponsive PC could indicate a virus and failure to boot into Windows could be a driver problem.

Expertizing means keeping the subject or matter mostly in your hand. To become an expert in computers you need to understand the many different areas of a computer. It will take some time and dedication. Once you become an expert, troubleshooting general and specific issues will be no problem at all!

Business processes develop and change over time. Often these processes evolve to meet new business needs. Over time, changes to business processes, and changes to the environment that these processes operate within, can cause them to become inefficient. Analysis of business processes can identify inefficiencies and their correction can reduce costs and improve the quality of their outputs.

EditMethod 1 of 4: Determine which Business Processes to Analyze

  1. 1
Look for signs of process inefficiency or imbalance such as long queues, long wait times or large work backlogs. Also, look for underutilized functions and work cells. Areas that go for long periods without work are also indicative of a process that is out of balance.

EditMethod 2 of 4: Identify the Requirements for the Business Process

  1. 1
    Interview key process participants.
    • Ask what they do and why they do it.
    • Ascertain what information and other inputs are needed to perform each task. Identify the source for each input.
    • Identify the outputs (or deliverable parts) of each task, who the recipients are and why they need what they receive.
  2. 2
Conduct group interviews and brainstorming sessions.
    • Use group sessions to validate and refine the information you've received once you've gathered initial information about a process through one-on-one interviews. This is an excellent way to clear up misconceptions of individuals within the process.
  3. 3
Summarize the information you have received and distribute it to the process participants. This should include both participants you have interviewed and others that you did not interview. Ask for feedback.

EditMethod 3 of 4: Document the Current Business Process

  1. 1
Create a process flowchart (also known as a process map). The cross-functional flowchart format is particularly helpful for visually presenting a multifunction process.
    • Flowcharts may be prepared manually or with the use of a chart creation program. Word processors and spreadsheet programs with charting functionality may be used. Programs designed specifically for the purpose of drawing flowcharts are particularly well-suited to the task.
    • Divide a page into a series of rows, also referred to as "swim lanes." Label the top row "Inputs" and label the bottom row "Outputs." Label each of the other rows with a function that performs one or more tasks in the process.
    • Enter each task in the row labeled for the function that performs that task. Enter inputs to each task above the task in the "Inputs" row and list the outputs of each task below it in the "Outputs" row. Note that the output of one task can often be an input to the next task. Connect inputs, tasks and outputs with arrows to show the direction of process flow.

EditMethod 4 of 4: Analyze the Business Process Requirements.

  1. 1
Perform task analysis. Evaluate the activities performed in each task: Are the activities efficient? Are they all focused on meeting the task objective?
  2. 2
Compare the results from individual interviews. Look for inconsistencies. For instance, does one step in the process deliver something to the next step that is not used in the next step?
  3. 3
Identify activities and task outputs that are unnecessary.
  4. 4
Sketch the business process from scratch based on the business process requirements identified during interviews and brainstorming sessions. Compare this process flow with the flowchart of the existing process. Identify potential process changes based on your comparison of the current process flow versus the process flow derived from requirements.

How to Accept That Your Computer Is Slow

Edited by Simon P, Lucky7, Teresa, Peter and 7 others
Do you have DSL or dial-up internet but just don't have the patience or time to let your computer run so slow? Sometimes you just have to face the facts and accept that your computer just isn't the fastest in the world.

Edit Steps

  1. 1
Be patient. Don't click anything too fast or try to refresh the page. This will just confuse the computer and it will run even slower. Don't overreact; just leave the computer alone, don't click anything, the best thing to do is just to let it load.
  2. 2
Clear your computer of all unnecessary documents. The more documents you get rid of, the more empty space you will have on the computer. Having more space on your computer will allow everything to run faster. Clear your recycle bin every once in a while to delete unnecessary files.
  3. 3
Buy new hardware for your computer. If one part of your computer is not working well or you have an older computer, consider upgrading the part to a more up-to-date replacement.
    • Keeping your computer updated is a good way to help your computer run faster and you can do so much more!
  4. 4
Forget videos. If you have dial-up internet, it can take up to half an hour to load one two-minute video. Unless you can leave your computer alone for hours to let it load, just forget about it. You can live without online videos.

Edit Tips

  • Get an expert to have a good, in-depth looking into the causes of it running slow. Most PC repair stores will be able to fix most problems at very reasonable rates.
  • Look around online to see on ways to improving the speed.
  • If you're that frustrated about your computer's speed, consider switching to Ubuntu or Fedora. These operating systems would probably work faster, and are free. If your computer is VERY old, consider a distro (distribution) made specifically for older computers, such as Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux, or Lubuntu.

How to Practice Business Etiquette in Italy

EditMethod 1 of 5: Developing Good Relations

  1. 1
Understand that people in Italy place high value on personal relations. It is more likely for Italian business people to trust you if they know you personally. Whenever possible, try to let someone who knows the person introduce you as this will reduce any apprehension the other person may have about you being unknown and therefore uncertain.
  2. 2
Spend some time developing relations. Italians prefer face-to-face contact for doing business.[1] If you are doing a lot of business with Italian organizations, it is advisable to actually visit Italy and develop your relations in person, so that they know who you are on that next Skype call or email.
  3. 3
Be open. It helps if business contacts know something about you personally, perhaps little things about your family, your prior roles in life and what you like to do in your spare time. Knowing the personal details will increase trust and Italian business people are more likely to conduct business with you, increasing the chances of a more successful outcome.
    • It is highly recommended that you divide time between socializing to get to know your Italian business partners and time for the actual business meetings. Being too personal during meetings is not appropriate; however, by knowing one another well before attending the meeting, everyone will feel a lot more comfortable. As such, try to meet them for a social occasion before sitting down to negotiations; set such hospitality up yourself, including covering its costs.

EditMethod 2 of 5: Grooming

  1. 1
Present a well-groomed appearance. Italians judge people by their appearance and form impressions based on how well you are dressed. No amount of wishing this weren't so will change it, so make it easy on yourself by conforming; after all, good clothes will give you confidence in a business setting, so it will help you too. Make sure you are adequately dressed up for any business occasion in which you're interacting with Italians. Some basic suggestions include:
    • For men: wear dark colored conservative business suits.
    • For women: Wear conservative clothes.
    • Accessorize yourself. Keep this simple but elegant. One expensive piece says more about you than lots of jangling cheap baubles.
    • Wear perfect shoes in excellent condition. Shoes are something that will be noticed and will form part of the overall impression of you.

EditMethod 3 of 5: Good Conversational Approaches

  1. 1
Build relationships by asking personal but not probing questions. It is important that the questions are not too intrusive or do not make the other person uncomfortable. However, general questions about family, social events happening at the time and interest in hobbies are usually fairly safe things to get the interacting underway successfully.
    • Be conscious that if you ask something too intimate, it can backfire. Be prepared to apologize for crossing any line and always aim to be very careful when asking personal questions. Unfortunately, it's a fine balancing act that you'll just have to practice to get used to!
  2. 2
Don't be afraid to use gestures as well as facial expressions when proving a point. Being loud and expressive is encouraged in Italian conversational exchanges, while at the same time being careful not to be too annoying or to seem anywhere near aggressive. Think passion and follow your heart when expressing your company or business interests!

EditMethod 4 of 5: Scheduling and Running Meetings

  1. 1
Make appointments two to three weeks in advance. Try to put any business appointment in writing (most preferably in Italian), so you have something to show if things don't work out according to plan. It is also helpful to confirm the meeting by a call, email or a fax––anything that results in reminding those attending the meeting that it's still happening.
    • Try not to schedule meetings in August unless those meeting with you make it clear they'll be available. Many businesses are closed during these period and people are on holiday; it could be awkward if someone feels compelled to fly back to Rome just to meet with you.
  2. 2
Be punctual. Italian business, particularly in the northern regions, value the punctuality of others. Prompt attendance at a meeting also says a lot about your reliability and enthusiasm, so it's best to be five minutes early than five minutes late.
    • Should those you are meeting turn up late (Italian business people outside of the northern regions are less concerned with their own punctuality than perhaps with yours[2]), do not make an issue out of it. Accept apologies and move on as if nothing untoward has happened. You can surmise whatever you want from it after the meeting but during the meeting it is best to appear unruffled and ready to make deals.
  3. 3
Have all printed material available in both English and Italian. This helps you colleagues; moreover, it also makes them appreciate your effort. It will help them to see that you are serious about doing business with them.
  4. 4
Use an interpreter if you are not fluent in Italian. This will ensure that the conversation runs more smoothly and that there are no misunderstandings. Do not rely on the ability of the other business people to speak English; that is too much of a burden for you to place upon them. It also leaves you at risk of not understanding what you really need to know.

EditMethod 5 of 5: Knowing What to Expect

  1. 1
Don't be aggravated if someone is loud during a meeting. It is simply a reflection of the accepted Italian way of discussing and sharing information, which includes speaking a lot and making a point loudly to ensure it is actually getting across.[1] Italian business people will be loud to be heard over others and it isn't considered rude or demeaning.
    • Avoid seeming too reserved or detached; a lack of enthusiasm may be interpreted by any unwillingness to engage excitedly in the discussions.[1]
  2. 2
Be ready for less structure than you may be used to. Italian meetings are not dominated by the agenda; indeed, there may not even be an agenda.[2] It can feel rather chaotic to you if you're used to itemizing meetings but it works for the Italians, so you need to go with the flow.
    • Interruptions are normal, as is expecting anyone around the table to have a say in the meeting as they wish.
    • Side conversations are commonplace, so are comings and goings.
  3. 3
Prepare for negotiation. Italian business people will negotiate price and delivery times. Make sure you are up to the task and will manage to get a good deal. As with any business, knowing what you want from the meeting before attending it, sets you in the best stead.
    • Most decisions will be based on how you present ideas rather than facts. Make sure that your delivery of ideas is perfect. If you need to practice this beforehand, then do so. And visual aids can also help, such as graphs, diagrams, photos, short films, etc. but don't make anything too formal, as that is not the Italian way.
    • Be prepared to be persuasive. Persuading and debating are art forms in Italian culture and are considered to be part of the business dealings.[1]
